How to measure the success of your popup campaigns: the KPIs that matter
By the SeizeLead team · 6 min read · 17 October 2026
A popup is easy to launch and easy to misjudge. Measuring it properly means looking at a few numbers together, not one.
Views (impressions)
How often the popup was actually seen. Count a view only when the visitor could see it; a popup placed far down a page may load but never be seen.
Conversion rate
Conversions divided by views, as a percentage. This is your headline metric. Compare it against your own baseline, not against a number from a blog.
Close rate
The share of people who close the popup. A very high close rate with few sign-ups points to a weak offer or bad timing.
Click-through rate
For banners and buttons, clicks divided by views. It shows whether the creative earns attention.
Device and page split
Break the numbers down by device and by page. A popup that converts well on mobile but poorly on desktop, or on one page but not others, shows exactly where to work.
Lead quality and revenue
Track what happens after the sign-up: opens, replies, sales. A smaller number of good leads is worth more than many poor ones.
Run proper tests
- Change one thing at a time.
- Wait for enough visitors before choosing a winner.
- Keep the test running across weekdays and weekends.
A weekly routine
Once a week, check views, conversion rate, close rate and device split for each popup. Pick the single biggest gap and fix it before the next review.
